SIGMUN – Psychedelic Indonesia

October 24th, 2011

Sigmun comes from Bandung, Indonesia and is currently producing a split record with well-known Indonesian rock artist, Rektivianto Yoewono, but there’s no word about when is it due to be released. According to their manager, it will be independently released in a 12″ vinyl format.

The band is made up of Haikal Azizi (Vocals/Guitar), Nurachman Andika (Guitar), Mirfak Prabowo (Bass Guitar) and Risyad Tabattala (Drums). They used to be known as the band ‘Loud’

Their music plays like a good mix of old school Jimi Hendrix and a little bit of AC/DC.

Dulcinea – Experimental Electronic

October 15th, 2011

Today’s new local music introduction comes from the band Dulcinea.

Formed in 2006 by Mathew Thomas, Jason Ng and Rashid Said, the band released their debut album “The Politics of Fear” in 2008.

Just this year, the band released a brand new album, “In The Shadow of The Sun” calling it their most cohesive work so far.

In The Shadow Of The Sun is Dulcinea’s sophomore album, following 2008′s “The Politics Of Fear” A theme album about healing, In The Shadow Of The Sun serves as a musical continuum that emphasizes the belief that music and art can be used as a form of therapy. The music, lyrics and artwork deal with a person facing and overcoming various traumatic experiences in life through the pursuit of artistic endeavors and the channeling of those energies into positive experiences.

Progressing from the electronic and experimental sounds of the previous album, In The Shadow Of The Sun sees Dulcinea move towards a more organic guitar oriented sound that mixes both alternative rock music with tendencies to go off on experimental tangents. As Dulcinea embarks on a journey towards discovering the darker realms of our subconscious in order to confront, communicate and understand those murky depths of humanity, be assured of some blistering hard rock, engaging lyrics, odd time signatures, ambient soundscapes and emotive musicianship.
