For all you Wilco fans out there, you HAVE to listen to this awesome cover of “I am trying to break your heart” from their 2001 album Yankee Foxtrot Hotel.

I thought the cinematography of the video was excellent and the re-arrangement of the track to fit into the soul/60s feel was really well done. I love discovering amazing and creative genre-jumping covers like this.

“I Am Trying To Break Your Heart” [Wilco] by JC Brooks & the Uptown Sound

For comparison – Here’s the original:

Flica aka Eu Seng Seto is an unassuming KL-based electro-acoustic outfit. At first glance, this shy and introverted character doesn’t strike as the passionate-type. But a closer look reveals his depths of emotion, much like his music. The 26 year old artist began his musical odyssey in 2005 with his first electronica project as duo Muxu, with former Citizens of Ice-Cream guitarist, Huat Liang. Soon, Flica realised the need to explore his own style and in early 2007, he began solely crafting his music in the solitude of his bedroom.

If you like our very own Aspidistra Fly, you’ll love this mix of ambient sounds fusioned together with the serene sounds of organic electromusic.

Every wondered why its hard to get good quality recording? Perhaps we’re concentrating too much on technology than the actual music.

It seems like the main problem comes from record company pressure to make perfect recordings. Vocalists’ off-pitch and out-of-time singing is tweaked with Auto-Tune; music-making is largely technology-based. That is, technology has replaced musical talent, and singers like Britney Spears were cited many times as to where it’s all headed. Not so musically talented, her music has to be patched together in the studio. There’s not a lot of there there.
